Footsie – Rastaman Pickney. Free EP

Footsie gives us a nice Christmas pressie, in the shape of this 4 track EP. The tracks on 'Rastaman Pickney' are the kind of sounds Im feeling right now, the merging of reggae dancehall with grime/electronica. Expect to hear at least one of these tracks on a forthcoming mix.

1. The Title
2. Hold On
3. Highgrade No Bush (Instrumental)
4. Highgrade No Bush (Vocal)

Kayne West - Runaway

Watched Kayne's short film this morning, which is basically an elaborate extended promo for his up coming album, 'Dark Twisted Fantasy'. Didnt care much for the stylisation/visual aspect or the story for the matter BUT the soundtrack (tunes from the new album) was dope. This guy continues to push forward and deserves much credit for doing so. The full 35 minute version below, watch and then discuss...

Shotcallers interview Diamond D

After an incredible DJ set of original 7 inch breaks and a short performance of some of his golden era classics in Brixton earlier this month, The Shotcallers were lucky enough to grab a few minutes with man himself.   Audio's not great, but check out this interview Reggie Fantastik and I did with the one and only Diamond D. (Big shouts going out to Shuks & The Kool Skool for the hook up)

As a little bonus..heres some dodgy phone footage from the same night of DD performing 'Best Kept Secret'...

RIP Fat Beats..

Internet killed the record shop..? Another one bites the dust. Closing down after nearly 20 years, the legendary Fat Beats store is no more. I was lucky enough to go and buy vinyl back in the day from the New York and Amsterdam stores so I feel blessed. To celebrate the history and contribution the NYC store made to Hip Hop culture, what I guess could be called a wake was held..check out the DJ sets from hiphop heavyweights Just Blaze, DJ Premier, A-Trak & Cypha Sounds (who made me laugh cos I brought my copy of Da Enemy from there on my first visit). RIP Fat Beats.

Its already got my vote as it features two of the biggest cuts of the last 12 months, the massive 'Heaven in Her Eyes' and personal favorite 'Put the Stereo On'. Now signed to a major, I hope he gets the push he deserves fi buss worldwide.

New Vids...

First up a tune for the trendies down in Shoreditch. Featuring the ill pairing of everybodys favorite female MC, Ms 'Dont call it a comeback' Dynamite and the sonic wizardary of Redlight. Im sure this will be massive in the coming weeks/months. Secondly, a stateside artist that Im trying to get familiar with 'Mexicans With Guns'. I honestly don't think I would have checked it out if it were not for this SICK azzz video. All my El Chicharito's stand up!
And lastly, some PHAT hiphop flavor from the D (as in Detroit). Invincible and Waajeed kill it with this joint celebrating the 'Detroit Summer'.

Future Dancehall Mix

I've heard the term used a lot lately to describe reggae dancehall/bashment which sounds grimier than that of its Jamaican cousin and more often than not, has it origins right here in Europe. I've been following the progression of this sound for a little while now, and after a playing a couple of bashment sets at Passing Clouds recently, It got me inspired to do this. Check it out and pass it on.

Damian Marley & Nas Live in London

Yesterday was my birthday!! What better way to end off a good day than going to a concert featuring two of my favorite artist? It was written... After BIG warm up sets from Semtex and Rodigan, and an impromptu verse from Jay Electronica, Marley and Nas (live band and Green Lantern) smacked through a two our set, and left us all, well... blown away...  A little shakey but heres some footage.

U-Roy - The Original

After Brum's Goody Bag we're on our way home in a taxi, and the driver starts drawin' for some BIG dubs on his stereo whilst simultaneously giving us all a lesson on history of Reggae music. It was funny if a little surreal at 3 in the morning.
In any case he was right.. U-Roy was the ORIGINAL Deejay (MC)...... and by the wonders of Youtube, some classic early U-Roy footage (must be quite rare cos he looks mad young).

Clubb Rock June Mix

Clubb Rock is a musical concept Mikee and I came up with just over two years ago, and when I look back on how our sound has progressed in that time, it amazes me. Big dirty basslines, four four beats, grungy synths, Clubb Rock has definitely found its sound.  One of our best monthly mixes to date, June's mix is strictly for the skankin' massive..enjoy..

The making of Outkast's Aquemini album

I've always enjoyed reading about the creative processes artists go through to make their music, so reading a breakdown on how each track came about for Outkast's seminal album Aquemini was a treat. Essential reading for any hip hop fan.

Better late than never...

You may know me from the electronic, dubstep/electro-crack house sound or from being a true hip hop head from day. Truth is Im into both. Although lately Im mostly on the former with Clubb Rock, I still like to keep my hand in hiphop circles. That being said here's my latest hiphop mix, its only short but you know what they say about good things coming in small packages...
